LILIA R. MARTINEZ
ABOUT ME

I'm an Interior Design Senior at Texas Christian University pursuing a career in the lighting and design industry. While completing the four year CIDA accredited Interior design program, I also completed the coursework necessary for both Business and Architectural Lighting minors. I look forward to becoming a Registered Interior Designer.
My Junior Year brought illumination to my experience, as I was able to intern with a renowned architecture and engineering firm, ARUP, known as a magnate in the global design market sector, in Los Angeles, California, The firm is located in the Wilshire Grand Building, which is LA's tallest building and I executed the tasks as a Lighting Design Consultant Intern. During the 3 month internship I was able to visit a few construction sites including the Beverly Hills Medical Center. The biggest takeaway was being able to coordinate the 2019 Daylight Hour Event, which included the Spanish translation to the Madrid office. Locally, I was able to Intern with Architectural Lighting Alliance, Dallas office, in the Technical Services department. This opportunity gave me the necessary skills to work at ARUP and helped me become a member of IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers) and attend the International Conference and 36th Annual Awards in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. At the awards, I got acquainted with a recipient who is a well-known lighting designer from Milan, Italy. Thus, 2019 being the year that helped me become passionate about lighting design.
During my Sophomore summer I had an opportunity to study abroad in a program designed to implement the history of art, design, and architecture in Europe's opulent cities of Vienna, Prague, and Budapest. When the program ended, I was able to visit one of Antonio Gaudy's legacy to Architecture, The Sagrada Familia Basilica, located in Barcelona Spain
Becoming a student member of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) and IIDA (International Interior Design Association) has allowed me to network and meet people in the Architecture and Design field through events and conferences,.
Design is part of our daily life, particularly in our domestic sphere. This was greatly appreciated when I had an opportunity to work alongside Robin Burrill, RID as an intern to gain residential design knowledge. Her mentorship and experience, includes many award winning projects and service as a past ASID Texas President, helped me determine a career path in the commercial sector.
I am passionate about design because it impacts the health, safety, and overall well being of all occupants in the built environment. Lighting design brings the best out the design processes to adds an exquisite and sophisticated touch to the interior. But overall, I am grateful to have an opportunity to learn from the best mentors and professors that shared their knowledge, skills, and industry experience in the BEST design school located in Fort Worth Texas! GO FROGS, GO TCU!!!
